14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi captured the world’s attention a few weeks ago when he scored a 35-ball century on his debut for the Rajasthan Royals, making it the second-fastest century in Indian Premier League history. His incredible performance turned the teenager into an overnight sensation.
Now, Ballynahinch has its own cricket prodigy. 11-year-old Lucy Gunson, playing in her first-ever game of schools’ cricket for Down High School against Wallace, took four wickets and grabbed a run out. Her efforts helped the Down High girls secure a dominant Schools’ Cup victory over the Lisburn school, with Emily Carville also taking four wickets.
Lucy’s achievement is impressive in its own right, but even more remarkable considering she was debuting for the girls’ first XI as a Year 8 pupil.
