14-year-old Ellen McGivern won a prestigious prize at Royal County Down Ladies Golf Club on Saturday (6 September). Ellen was the popular winner of the President’s Prize, with an impressive score of 38 points, despite the difficult conditions.
President Christine Crockett presented her with a golf bag at the prize-giving ceremony in the new clubhouse. Ellen made a fine acceptance speech, which was well received.
Junior golf in Royal County Down Ladies Golf Club is going from strength to strength, in no small part thanks to the encouragement and support of the senior members.
Ellen has managed to reduce her handicap by 10 since the beginning of the year, to 27.3 — the result of regular playing and practice. A great achievement from Ellen.
