Our Mission

“To empower and support the communities of South Down by providing objective and accurate local journalism that secures positive change for its residents and businesses”

About us

Established in 1949, the Mourne Observer has remained a pillar of the local community for over 65 years. We are a 4th generation family business which operates under three core values, core values which have remained the same since we first opened our doors to publish our first newspaper on Saturday 8th October 1949; community, trust and accountability. We are passionate about local journalism and believe the service we provide makes the communities of South Down a better place to live, work and raise a family. By supporting the Mourne Observer, you are ensuring quality local journalism continues to have a place in South Down and continues to positively impact on the daily lives of its residents.
