GUS Kirkpatrick has completed a long-held ambition recently, of climbing from the saddle of Donard to the summit 32 times, which is equal to the height of Everest.
Gus, who is from London but who has family connections to the Mournes area, explained why he wanted to achieve this feat.
“I live with Type 1 Diabetes and my older brother George (33) also has the disease.
“We have set out to prove that anything is possible with the disease (and other similar diseases).”
In this week’s Mourne Observer read Gus’s full story, of how his childhood’s spent in the area inspired him to come and try out this challenge, as well as some of the obstacles that he had to overcome to complete the feat.
