Firefighting operations in the Mourne Mountains are expected to ‘continue across the week’, the NI Fire and Rescue Service have said.
Crews continue to tackle fires at The Ballagh, near Newcastle, and along the Sandbank Road, outside Hilltown. There have been 95 firefighters in attendance.
Providing an update this afternoon (Monday 27 April) , the Fire Service reiterated its appeal for the public to avoid these areas. As part of the firefighting operations, volunteers from the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team and Sky Watch NI have assisted.
