A TALENTED local teenager has proved she has a global reach!

Mayobridge’s Sophie Lennon last night appeared on America’s Got Talent, having been scouted for the major TV show earlier this year.

The singing sensation, who launched her latest single at the end of May, had to remain tight-lipped for several months about the transatlantic trip.

However, with the broadcast imminent, she was able to reveal all on social media at the weekend.

It certainly was a whirlwind for the local girl, who, having been scouted in February, by the America’s Got Talent team, was flown out to Los Angeles within a week to audition – with the process filmed along the way.

Sophie, the first Northern Ireland contestant to appear on the show, was able to share images from her time on set, meeting judges Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel.

Confirming she had some “big news” to share, using her Sophie Lennon Singing page on Facebook, the talented local teenager said: “I can’t believe I’m actually writing this post, but I can finally share with you all – after keeping it secret for so long – that I’m going to be on this season of ‘America’s Got Talent’.

“It has been an absolutely crazy, whirlwind six months.”

Revealing details of how she was approached to take part in the US auditions, Sophie said she was “shocked” when she was “scouted for back in February” and flown out almost immediately by the AGT team.

Noting how she travelled “within one week all the way from Ireland to Los Angeles” on an all-expenses paid trip, along with her parents Marcus and Theresa, Sophie said the filming took place over three days.

With her episode aired across America and broadcast worldwide on NBC & Peacock TV, Sophie revealed “I’m still pinching myself what all that is happening lately. I’ve always dreamed of being on America’s Got Talent from I was little, watching all their YouTube videos and I just can’t believe my dream has come true.”

She added: “I’m absolutely privileged to be the first person ever from Northern Ireland to be chosen from all the incredible talent around the world to perform on the biggest talent show in the world!

“I still can’t believe it, what an experience it’s been so far and I can’t wait to share my journey with you all.”

Sophie, who represented Ireland on Junior Eurovision, and has starred on stage in London, concluded by thanking her legions of followers for their continued support “throughout everything”, adding that “it means the world to me!”

So, stay tuned, for lots more to come.
