A MAN armed with a knife was spotted walking behind a woman in Kilkeel on Monday night.
A 60-year-old man was arrested following the incident.
The PSNI has confirmed it received a number of reports about the man, including one from a woman who was flagged down by a motorist and warned that the armed man was walking a distance behind her.
The incident unfolded in the Harbour Road area of the town.
A PSNI spokeswoman said the man was arrested “following reports of a man carrying a knife”.
“A 60-year-old man has been arrested following reports of a man carrying a knife in Kilkeel on Monday night,” she confirmed.
“A number of reports were received between 8.30pm and 9pm, including one from a woman who had been stopped by a passing motorist who had advised her of the man walking a distance behind her.”
Speaking yesterday afternoon, the PSNI spokesperson added that once on scene police “quickly identified and arrested” the suspect, and that he remains in police custody.
