A Rowallane councillor has said that the securing of the future of Langley Community Farm is “great news for Ballynahinch”.

Jonny Jackson (DUP) has welcomed confirmation that NIE Networks – the owner of the Langley Road land on which the farm is located – has endorsed a new licence agreement that will keep the community attraction in place.

In a statement, the local representative highlighted that, up until three years ago, the site had “lain dormant with overgrown bushes and rubbish” and was in “a very rundown bad state, with it being used as a dumping ground”.

“Nobody seemed to know who actually owned the ground, and, following attempts to find out, local resident Robert Dickson – locally known as Jimmy – took matters into his own hands to voluntarily get the piece of ground cleaned up,” he continued.

“Jimmy worked tirelessly to remove the rubbish and waste that had been dumped there and then began clearing the overgrown bushes to clean the place up.”
