BALLYNAHINCH booked their place in the League Cup semi-final with a win over Armagh City Ladies.

Ballynahinch made a flying start to the tie when Melissa Sloan opened the scoring in the first minute.

Trying to build on this, Ballynahinch created a number of chances, but they just couldn’t convert, and Armagh secured the equaliser with a quick counterattack.

Armagh were being restricted to occasional breaks and totally against the run of play they went ahead with a deflected shot from a free kick.

The second half saw Ballynahinch maintain the tempo, keeping Armagh penned into their own half, and a sublime shot from Olivia McDonagh from the edge of the box into the top corner of the net drew the sides level.

Ballynahinch kept going and with eight minutes left got what turned out to be the winning goal when Melissa Sloan broke, rounded the Armagh keeper and coolly slotted the ball into the net for her second goal of the game.

This was a great performance, especially with a number of players absent due to illness, injury and exams.

The Ballynahinch players of the match were Katy Lyons and Olivia McDonagh.
