NADAFL Harry Clarke Cup, R2

Ballynahinch Utd Swifts 2 Kilmore Rec Rovers 6

A YOUTHFUL Ballynahinch Swifts team entertained a skilful Kilmore Rec Rovers side who are riding high in Division Two of the Newcastle League in the second round of the Harry Clarke Cup on Saturday.

Both teams observed a minute’s silence in memory of the late Harry McKibbin who passed away the previous day.

The Swifts were unfortunate to lose so many regular team members to the first team due to injury and work commitments.

The young team gave a good account of themselves, and the final score does not adequately reflect their performance on the day.

The visitors were very well organised, with a fair sprinkling of experienced players, and they controlled the early exchanges, giving the home defence of Justin Herbert, Gareth Bingham and Will McNeill a difficult time.

Kilmore took the lead after 15 minutes when Lorcan McDonnell converted a cross from McGreevy. The same player claimed the second goal on 20 minutes, however it was strongly disputed by the home team that it had not crossed the line.

The Swifts came out in the second half with their midfield of Ben Rogers, Matthew Tate, Graeme McMullan and Matthew Douglas seeing more of the ball and giving the forward line of Diarmuid Lavery, Johnny Stevenson and Ian McMullan a few openings.
