NEWCASTLE League Premier Division sides Strangford and Drumaness Mills Reserves will meet in this year’s traditional Bobby Dalzell showpiece.

Strangford are back in the Bobby Dalzell final after losing out to Ballynagross last year, while the Mills are in their first final since 1991.

Drumaness made it to the final after overcoming Kilmore Rec Rovers, Celtic Bhoys Academy and Ballynagross, while Strangford saw off Newcastle Town Swifts and Killough, before beating Ardglass on penalties in the semi-final.

A weakened Drumaness side lost 2-0 away to Killough in their final league game of 2024 on Saturday, while Strangford thumped Ballynagross 7-0 and moved up to second place in the Newcastle League Premier Division.

Drumaness manager Stephen Boyd says that Strangford go into the game as favourites.

“I watched Strangford in the (Bobby Dalzell) semi-final and they’ve gone and won 7-0 today (Saturday), they’ve got the momentum and they’re breezing through a lot of their matches.

“Strangford are the in-form team, they’re scoring goals for fun and they’re very fit.

“They’re massive favourites,” Boyd said.

In the full article read why the Strangford management are feeling confident, and Stephen Boyd also explains how they have been doing their homework for what he says will be a bittersweet day.
