Bryansford have officially bought St Patrick's Park in Newcastle

HISTORY has been made at the Bryansford club, as they have completed their purchase of St Patrick’s Park, in Newcastle.

The club had, previous to this deal, been leasing the ground from the Down County board. Two years ago, they decided to begin the process to purchase the ground outright at a cost of £350,000.

Then on Friday past, the deal was completed, and the club became the legal owners of St Patrick’s Park.

Club chairman Matthew Toner told the Mourne Observer how much the deal has meant to himself and to the club.

“Since I was a child of four years of age, I’ve been part of the club, as my father was secretary at the time. He was behind the redevelopment of the clubhouse so St Patrick’s Park means so much to me.

“We have had many glory days there.

“In 2003 we won the Senior Championship there, an occasion never to forget. Hopefully there will be more to come.

“The thought of purchasing St Patrick’s Park was always on our minds as the lease/ security we had wasn’t forever.

“So when I approached a few members to get an insight into everyone’s vision it was undoubtedly the only thing to do and we engaged with the county board about purchasing.

“Kalum King and Fergal Maguire have been the real brains behind this their expertise was invaluable.”

In the full report Matthew explains how the club reached this point.
