    Burren wary of Liatroim challenge

The Senior Football Championship throws in this weekend. Burren coach Stevie O’Hare told the Mourne Observer why recent history show that their first round opponents Liatroim, who were relegated recently, must be respected.

BURREN plan to show Liatroim the utmost respect in this weekend Senior Championship opener, as they know they have to be careful.

Burren will be favourites to win this game, partly because Liatroim are coming into the game after being relegated to Division Three.

But Burren joint manager Stevie O’Hare, who takes the team alongside Eoin McCartan, said that the Senior Championship always throws up surprises, and they don’t want to fall into that trap.

“League form doesn’t mean anything. If you look at Glenn last year, they were relegated to Division Three but they ended up in the Senior Championship semi-finals.

“They (Liatroim) have not had a good league. But I think they are waiting to get lads back, and they have been getting better in their last few games.”

Stevie said there are plenty of reasons why Liatroim should be respected.

“Liatroim have made a good steps. They won the Intermediate Championship last year, and got to the Ulster semi-final last year. It was unfortunate for them not to win Ulster.

“They will be looking to make a good show this year.

“They have got a very good manager in Peter McDonnell. He coached in Burren so we know how good he is.”

In the full story Stevie explains how and why he juggled his panel during the league, and why he thinks this year’s Senior Championship will be close. Plus read previews of every game taking place this weekend.
