CASTLEWELLAN Town will take to the field at the Blanchflower Stadium tonight hoping to do something no Castlewellan side has done before and lift the County Antrim Junior Shield.

After falling at the penultimate stage in 2003, 2008, 2014 and 2015, Castlewellan finally overcame Taughmonagh Young Men 2-0 in this season’s semi-final and now face Newtownabbey side St Mary’s in tonight’s final.

Club captain Conall Corrigan reflected the feeling in and around the town of Castlewellan since the club made the final.

“I’ve heard a few people describe it as the biggest game in the club’s history. You can see a few flags going up around the town.

“I’m a committee member as well, so the planning that’s gone into the game in terms of trying to give the players the best preparation possible to fulfil our potential and win it has been top notch.

“You get a real sense that it is a huge game and one we’ll be trying our best to win,” Corrigan explained.
