CASTLEWELLAN managed to win their first game of the season on Friday night, and Rory Burns hopes the result can help turn their season around.
The 0-12 to 0-10 win over Mayobridge ends a three-game losing streak in a season which they have lost ten times.
They look likely to get relegated from Division One, having earned just two points from two draws. But one of the more senior members of the squad, Rory Burns, said the win has changed the attitude in the camp.
“Up until Friday night the mood was pretty low. You play football to win and we were competing and not winning.
“It felt like it was never going to come, especially the way we were losing games. We weren’t getting hammered, we were winning up to the 59th minute and then getting beat. It was draining.
“But we dug deep against Mayobridge. We were 7-0 after ten minutes. Then at half time we were seven six up.
“Ten minutes into second half it was 8-7 to the ‘Bridge. We were thinking ‘is this actually happening’ but we showed resilience to turn round and stand up and win a lot of ball when it had to be won.
“Hopefully that win will give us momentum. We are still optimistic.”
