    Cautious optimism for leisure centre and Rockpool

    Some small progress has been made towards achieving the goal of having a leisure centre in Newcastle, and bringing back the Rock Pool.

    A MOURNES councillor has said that progress in developing a new Newcastle leisure centre and repairing the town’s historic Rock Pool should be greeted with cautious optimism. 

    Jill Truesdale (Alliance) was speaking after Thursday’s meeting of the Council’s Strategy, Policy and Resources committee at which a decision was made, in closed session, to move forward the procurement and appointment of an integrated consultancy team for both projects. 

    “We have to be very careful with the language and how this is viewed,” she said.
