Co Antrim Junior Shield Final
Celtic Bhoys v St Mary’s FC
Wednesday, 7.45pm, Blanchflower Stadium, Belfast

Celtic Bhoys captain Mikey Rice says tonight’s Junior Shield final is the “biggest game in the club’s history by a country mile”.

The Bhoys face reigning Junior Shield champions, Newtownabbey outfit St Mary’s, who defeated Castlewellan Town 3-0 in last year’s final at the Blanchflower Stadium in Belfast.

“It’s important not only for myself, but for the committee members at the club, the chairman – Stephen Torney. As a collective, it’s the pinnacle of where we’ve got to so far as a club,” Rice explained.

Captain Rice, who has been at Celtic Bhoys since the club became a senior outfit over ten years ago, says the players haven’t had too much time to think about the significance of the game because of the testing Amateur League schedule at the business end of the season.

“At this time of year, we’re playing matches mid-week and Saturday, so you don’t have too much time to dwell on it (the Junior Shield final) because the games are coming thick and fast.”
