A LIP Sync Battle event on Friday night raised more than £12,000 for a local charity.
Advocacy VSV held the musical event at the Canal Court Hotel in Newry to raise funds for its services that benefit people in the Newry, Mourne and Down District area.
“Thanks to the incredible support and hard work of our acts, sponsors, and volunteers, we were able to raise £12,383.55 and 33 Euro,” a spokesperson for Advocacy VSV said.
Advocacy VSV, based at The Nautilus Centre in Kilkeel, is a charity advocating on behalf of and supporting victims of sexual violence.
“We are the only charity in NI to offer a professional and specialist service to both males and females in the safety of their own home,” a representative for the charity said.
The charity also provides support to those affected by sexual violence who may be waiting for court cases to be resolved.
“Advocacy VSV stands with victims who are facing the criminal justice system and those who are perhaps too frightened to report the crime but need a safe and professional space to process trauma.”
The successful Lip Sync Battle event featured a variety of local people taking part on stage and off.
“The event was a true testament to the kindness and compassion of our supporters, who came together to show that our victims are not alone. From individual donations to business contributions, every act of support made a difference and got us closer to our fundraising goals,” the spokesperson said.
“We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who played a part in making this event a success. Whether you attended the event, donated funds, volunteered your time, or helped spread the word, your support is truly appreciated.
