LOCAL charity MYMY has become one of only 12 counselling services in Northern Ireland to be accredited by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).
The charity, which has operated in the Newcastle and Castlewellan area for 15 years, has evolved into one of the most in-demand counselling centres in County Down, with the recent accreditation demonstrating a high standard of knowledge, experience and quality in the development and delivery of its counselling services.
Recognised as the leading professional body by counsellors and psychotherapists, BACP upholds high standards of ethical practice within the counselling profession.
Speaking about this recent endorsement and the fact the organisation is just one of a dozen to hold it in the province, the charity’s CEO, Deborah Boden, said “this is another important step for MYMY in demonstrating the high quality of its services and the excellent work of the counselling team.”
She continued: “Our BACP accreditation provides MYMY with a recognised quality standard for our counselling service and demonstrates that we offer an accountable, ethical, professional and responsive service to clients, that meet the highest standards.”
Chair of MYMY Paul Walsh, added: “MYMY has always recognised the need to provide strong support for those dealing with mental health issues in our community and we have put enormous effort into providing those professional resources.”
Highlighting that this BACP recognition “reassures our clients that our service is safe, secure and professionally delivered,” Mr Walsh said it will also help clients “make an informed decision when choosing to contact MYMY for help and support with their mental health”.
He added: “We have always relied on the support of the community to help us deliver our services and continue to seek their assistance to help people improve their ongoing mental health.”
