BENNY Coulter, the county minor manager, has branded the Down’s attacking performance as “outstanding” following their 5-19 to 1-12 All-Ireland C semi-final win over Leitrim.

The results means that Down have now qualified for an All-Ireland final against Westmeath, and it is a game they are eager to win.

After Saturday’s semi-final they look like they have the attacking threats to do so. Barra McEvoy scored 1-6, Paul McGovern grabbed 2-1, Conor Ward scored 1-3 and Adam McCann Gibbs got the other goal in the dominant display, and ten players in total scored for the Mourne county.

“Our attacking play was outstanding,” Coulter said.

“Defenders were scoring and everything. That went really well.

“Our own kick outs were very good, so that is something that we can keep working on.”

Coulter explained why he had expected his team to win on Saturday.

“I had seen a couple of videos of Leitrim and I was confident that we would win the game.

“I know this group and they are a very talented group of players. I knew they (Leitrim) wouldn’t have enough to trouble us up front.

“I knew if they scored heavily then we would score even more. So I was pretty confident. We carried most things out right.”
