THERE’S no stopping Sophie Lennon.
The talented Mayobridge teenager seems to have a never-ending desire to entertain.
Sophie, who is no stranger to the stage, including the West End, or screen, is now counting down the hours until her latest single, ‘Secret Hideaway’ launches.
The single, which she recorded last year in London, will be released on all major streaming platforms this Friday.
Fourteen-year-old Sophie, who wowed the likes of Simon Cowell and his panel and reached the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent, is delighted about the imminent launch of her new single.
She explained that Secret Hideaways was written in conjunction with her music producer, Majiker, who also wrote her previous single, ‘Fireflies’, and her Junior Eurovision song, ‘Solas’, when she represented Ireland in the 2022 international competition.
Sophie claimed fourth place in the coveted competition, which is often seen as a launch-pad for up and coming performers.
She made such an impression at the 2022 event that she was invited back as a guest artist for the following year’s Junior Eurovision, which was held in the south of France.
Despite her successes to date, the local teen’s feet remain firmly on the ground, and she remains humble about her achievements.
Rubbing shoulders with some of the top names in stage, TV and in the world of song, Sophie revealed that she has “lots of exciting things happening” but has to remain firmly tight-lipped about what’s around the corner.
She was able to confirm that she recently returned from LA, California, where she was “filming for something very exciting, all of which will be revealed soon”.
Her rise to fame came out of the blue.
A home video in the build-up to Christmas 2020 captured a 10-year-old Sophie singing ‘O Holy Night’. It opened many doors and paved the way for her many successes to date.
In the same year that she represented Ireland at Junior Eurovision, Sophie was also crowned the BBC Northern Ireland School Soloist of the Year.
The third year student at Sacred Heart Grammar in Newry has written six songs to date and plans to release an EP at the end of this year.
With these half a dozen self-penned songs already under her belt, Sophie also confirmed she will be releasing an album next year.
The six songs will be released throughout this year and into next.
The video for Secret Hideaway features Sophie and her good friend, Dublin-born film star Alisha Weir.
She played the title role of Matilda Woodworm in Netflix’s Matilda the Musical, and also starred as Abigail in the new Hollywood horror movie, Abigail, which was made by the producers of the Scream movies franchise.
She has also lent her voice to the soon to be released animated feature, ‘The Land of Sometimes’, which also features the likes of Ewan McGregor and Helena Bonham Carter.
Thanking everyone for their continued support, Sophie added she is “absolutely blown away” by people’s kindness in the run-up to her new single’s release.
“This is definitely my favourite song so far. I was 13 when I recorded this single, last June, and I am so excited for its release; and I had so much fun shooting the music video with my incredibly talented and beautiful friend. I hope everyone loves it as much as we do.”
Describing the past few months as “the most craziest whirlwind”, between her trip to the US and the build-up to Friday’s song launch, Sophie concluded: “I really want to thank everyone for their continued support, it really means the world to me.”
