COUPLE MARRIED ON LEAP YEAR DAY CELEBRATE 60TH ANNIVERSARY

BRIAN and Vivienne Dumigan
are celebrating their 60th
wedding anniversary this
week.
The Clough couple’s diamond wedding
anniversary is on Thursday, the 29th of
February.
Brian explained that because they
were married during a leap year there
was a bit of debate about what day to
mark their anniversary in the years when
there was no 29th of February on the
calendar.
In the end they opted for the 1st of
March when it’s not a leap year.
He added that at the time they were
getting married they didn’t think too
much about the fact their wedding day
was going to be the 29th of February.
It just so happened, he explained, that
date was the first available Saturday.
Brian and Vivienne met while
attending worship at Bloomfield
Presbyterian Church in East Belfast and
fittingly that is where their marriage
service took place too.
While they spent much of their working
lives in Belfast, as retirement beckoned
they decided to move to Clough.
They have been residents in the village
for over 20 years.
“We love it down here,” Brian added.
“We were only in a week and we knew
everybody and we have made a lot of
friends.”
Brian and Vivienne have two children,
Gary, who is married to Valerie, and
Lorraine, who is married to Mark.
They also have five grandchildren –
Hannah, Joshua, Megan, Catherine and
Reuben – and three great-grandchildren
– five-year-old George, Arthur (3) and sixmonth-
old Jesse.
The family enjoyed a special
celebration at the weekend at the Grand
Hotel in Malahide for Brian and
Vivienne’s milestone anniversary.
