CASTLEWELLAN Town progressed to the quarterfinal of the Clarence Cup on Saturday thanks to two second half penalties from Ruairi Croskery as they dumped out NAFL Premier Division side Mossley.
Despite being missing several regulars through injury, suspension and other commitments, the Town men started the brightest with veteran striker Niall Murray having two good chances early on which he was unable to make the most off.
Despite the strong start from the hosts, it was the visitors who had the best chance to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty on six minutes following a handball by the Castlewellan defence.
The penalty however wasn’t converted as Ryan Worthington struck the ball high and on to the bar with stand-in goalkeeper Morgan Croskery helpless if it had of been on target.
The game continued to be a competitive affair for the opening 25 minutes with Castlewellan creating the better openings but neither team creating anything clear cut.
