ON Friday past, Diane McKay took on a 24-hour running challenge, hosted by Kilcoo GAC, to raise funds for Cancer Fund for Children and Kilcoo GAC.
The aim was to run 2.1 miles every hour, on the hour, for a full 24 hours. Diane knew from the outset that it would be one of the toughest challenges she had ever attempted, but as runners, they often enjoy testing their limits and stepping outside their comfort zones.
The physical challenge was demanding, but the lack of sleep proved to be one of the hardest aspects.
As the night went on, tiredness began to set in, and staying positive became increasingly difficult.
Despite this, Diane kept reminding herself why she had started and focused on completing one lap at a time. What made the experience truly special was the incredible camaraderie among everyone taking part.
Throughout the night, the runners encouraged each other, shared words of support and helped keep spirits high when energy levels were low. Knowing that others were facing the same challenges made a huge difference.
Diane was also fortunate to receive fantastic support from her clubmates, both in the lead-up to the event and during the challenge itself.
Their encouragement, messages and presence helped motivate her to keep going when the hours seemed long and the miles felt harder.
Completing the challenge gave Diane a great sense of achievement and provided memories that will stay with her forever.
While it tested her physically and mentally, it also reminded her of the strength of the running community and the friendships that make challenges like this so rewarding.
Diane is truly grateful to everyone who supported her along the way and feels incredibly blessed to be part of such a wonderful running club.
The experience was unforgettable, and Diane will always look back on it with pride.
