A NEWCASTLE amateur dramatics group is looking additional actors for its next production.
Donard Theatre Group is bringing Peter Quilter’s ‘Duets’ to the local stage and requires two more for its cast.
DTG is a well-known local am-drama group who have been treading the boards since the 1980s – having performed an abundance of plays in the years that have followed.
‘Duets’ is a compilation of four diverse stories, each involving a couple.
The group is currently seeking two male actors to play parts for a 50-plus and a 30-plus year-old.
Previous acting experience advised but not essential. The group sees community theatre as an opportunity to bring people together, develop confidence and creativity, and provide a place where people of all backgrounds can discover, or rediscover, their enjoyment of performing.
Applicants need to be fully committed – rehearsals will be on Wednesday evenings.
It is hoped the production will take place in December. Mark McCready, who will be directing this production, said that previous acting experience would be good, although not essential.
As he explained, men considering the roles should bear in mind each story is approximately 20 minutes long, so therefore they will “require substantial line learning”.
He continued: “Actors will require good comic timing and the ability to bring emotional honesty and realism to their performance.”
Encouraging locals to consider getting involved, Mark added: “Community theatre is about opening the door. You don’t have to think of yourself as an actor already – sometimes you just need someone to give you the opportunity to discover that you can do it.”
In addition to the initial Wednesday evening rehearsals, DTG may introduce extra rehearsals closer to the performance.
Applicants can contact the Donard Theatre Group by e-mailing dr@deanrichman.co.uk, or via the @donardtheatregroup account on Facebook, and include brief details of any past acting experiences.
