Ulster Ladies Football Intermediate final

Down v Cavan

Sunday, Healy Park, Omagh, 3.30pm

Down are gearing up for this Sunday’s Ulster final, not only aiming to defend their title but also to inspire the next generation of ladies’ footballers. The team, who won the Ulster championship last year against Monaghan, will face Cavan, who previously defeated them in the league earlier this year.

Captain Clara Mulvenna emphasized that Sunday’s match is more than just about winning or losing. “It would be huge to win,” she said. “Our main aim in Down is to inspire the younger generation. We want Down to be promoted and celebrated as much as we can. So getting over the line next week would definitely put an emphasis on the Down ladies. We want girls to come through.”

Cavan, winners of the Division Three league title this year, are coming off a strong season, with six wins out of seven games. However, Clara believes the 3-15 to 1-8 defeat they suffered in February will have little bearing on Sunday’s match. “That league meeting was really early on. Both teams have probably changed immensely since then,” she said, confident that Sunday’s final will be a new challenge for both sides.
