The Down ladies should hold their heads high now that their season has ended.
That’s the analysis of their manager, Colm Donnelly, just over a week on from the Down ladies’ heartbreaking defeat in the All-Ireland Ladies Football Intermediate Championship semi-final clash.
Down lost 0-12 to 1-11 to Fermanagh in a game they could have won, having led for long periods.
But manager Colm Donnelly explained that the team have every right to feel positive about their 2026 season.
“We have improved massively this year,” he said.
“They can hold their heads up very high because they are after having a really good season. From the start of the year to the end of the last game in the league and the last game of the championship. They were a kick of the ball away in both games.
“There has been no silverware, but it has been a very progressive season for the group.
“When people outside of Down know they are playing Down in a game of football they know they have got a game on their hands and that is the most important thing.”
