Kerry 4-5 Down 2014
By Séamas McAleenan
THE All-Ireland Minor Championship swung into action on Sunday with Down travelling to Banagher for the opening group game of the B grade. They came away with a 2-14 to 4-5 victory over Kerry, something of a rarity in recent seasons.
The Ulster side got off to a good start with three of the first four points from Katie Christie, Caileigh McConnell and Dáire O’Shea. Down were on top at this stage, but against the run of play, Kerry hit back with two goals.
Down bounced back however and led by 0-11 to 2-2 at the break with O’Shea kick-starting a run of eight points that included scores from Katie Quinn, Caoimhe Dorrain and Caileigh McConnell.
