Ulster Senior Football Championship semi-final

Down v Armagh

Saturday, Clones, 5.15pm

By Peter McGrath Junior

WHEN the ball is thrown in at Clones on Saturday evening and battle commences it will be 15 men in red and black against 15 in orange.

When Armagh beat Fermanagh to confirm this fixture not many gave Down any hope. Such is the nature of sport though that, as any game draws nearer, an innate feeling of hope and optimism begins to grow.

While few will probably be massively confident Down could win the game, the possibility of being competitive and pushing Armagh all the way is a distinct possibility.

Last year at the semi final stage Armagh beat Down by ten points, 4-10 – 0-12. This year they sealed promotion back to Division One fairly comfortably, conceding just two goals in the whole regulation seven games and both of those were in their final fixture.
