All-Ireland U-20B Championship semi-final
Down 0-22 Wexford 1-15
Down won their All-Ireland U-20B Championship semi-final with a strong second half showing on Wednesday evening at Abbotstown in Fingal.
The early stages were close, as Wexford led 0-5 to 0-4 after 15 minutes. Down found their stride and edged ahead 0-7 to 0-5 in the 20th minute.
Three minutes later Wexford struck for a goal. Then they went on a scoring spree that put them 1-9 to 0-8 ahead by the 26th minute.
Down rallied and added two points to make the scoreline 0-10 to 1-9. But Wexford scored two points and went in at the break 1-11 to 0-10 ahead.
Down came out strong in the second half and went on a run of nine points in the first 13 minutes, as Wexford failed to score in that time.
They scored their first point of the second half in the 43rd minute, as they attempted to stop Down’s surge. The Mourne county led 0-19 to 1-12 at that point.
Paul McCartan and Neil Coulter’s team went score for score with Wexford over the next ten minutes.
With five minutes remaining, Down led 0-21 to 1-14. Both sides added a score in the final stages as Down cruised to victory.
Down will play Sligo at a date which is to be confirmed.
