DOWNPATRICK clinched promotion to Section One by beating Section Two champions Bangor at a sun-drenched Strangford Road, winning by 31 runs.

The captain Marco Wyngard has been instrumental behind his side’s nine-match unbeaten run since losing by one run at Upritchard Park.

Bangor won the toss and sent the home side in to bat and showed why they had only lost one game by reducing Downpatrick to 31 for 3 off six overs, with Robin Van Harte getting all three.

The home support were hoping for partnerships and they got it from Wyngard and Aaron Ferris 13 (30) on a wicket that was unpredictable.

Any score of 100+ would be challenging.

Downpatrick’s overseas player Marco Wyngard has been exceptional on and off the pitch and finished 58 not out to finish top run scorer in Section Two, with 729 runs and a very impressive 91 average.

He also hit the most sixes, 35, and topped the wicket keeping with catches and stumpings.

In the full report read why the batting partnership was so crucial to their win.
