Downpatrick win by three wickets
DOWNPATRICK’s Midweek XI welcomed unbeaten NCU Midweek South table-toppers Bangor to The Meadow for a must win game on Wednesday past.
Stand-in skipper Ravi Ningegowda made use of the depth of the squad to make a few changes which immediately paid dividends.
Richu Raju opened with an excellent spell of seam bowling, removing two of the top three for Bangor. Raju finished with 2-22 from his 4 overs.
Resistance from Zach Kerr (30 retired), Hamza (27) and Carson (27) saw Bangor post a competitive total of 128 in their 20 overs.
Wickets were picked up by Agadi, John and Kumar for Downpatrick.
Downpatrick’s run chase got off to a slow start, with Kumar and Ferris falling to leave the home side in trouble at two for six in the second over.
Raju was composed and compiled an excellent 30 retired from 26 balls to get Downpatrick back on course.
Nayeem Agasdi struck some brutal blows in a quick fire 25 counter attack to change the momentum of the game.
A mini collapse made it interesting but Anirudh Mishra held firm with a crucial 20 off 25 balls to get within touching distance of victory, with the home skipper seeing his side home with eight balls to spare.
With no fixture this week, the team look forward to crucial fixtures in early July to try and secure their place in the knockout stages of the NCU Midweek South competition.
