Dromara Village manager James Costello says some of his players will be playing for their future in the final months of the season following Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Rosario YC.

Dromara were knocked out of the NAFL Clarence Cup at the quarterfinal stage by the Belfast outfit, who sit fourth in the Amateur League Premier Division.

Reflecting on the game, Costello said: “It was a great game for the neutral.

“First and foremost, Rosario are a really good side and I think that’s reflected in where they are in the league this year.

“We had a gameplan and I suppose any manager who loses a game will have regrets.

“I was happy with our performance but ultimately mistakes that have cost us all season were creeping in in terms of the goals we conceded.”

Dromara’s cause on Saturday wasn’t helped by the number of players they are missing through injury.

“We are depleted as a squad at the minute and that took its toll.

“We had five forwards missing again on Saturday, myself included, so we’re very limited in attacking areas.

“Patrick Shearer has been out for the season since Christmas. Philly Kerr has been out for the season more or less all year.

“Ben Martin, who has been our best forward this year, hurt his quad a month ago and only came on for the last 30 minutes on Saturday; that’s as much as we could risk with him.

“Caolan Teer, who I brought in a month ago, is also out.

“When you boil it down and you go, what resource was there to impact the game and change the game in key moments? — we don’t have depth,” he explained.
