The Dromara camogs

Dromara camogie manager David Coffey says that it is the inspiration he gets from his players that makes the two-hour round trip from Portaferry an easy journey for him to make.

The former Down minor camogie manager took over as coach of Dromara last year, and he is delighted to stay on for a second year in. “I have never come across a group of players as committed as this group. It is infectious,” David said. “I have nothing but admiration for them to hurl at this level. The commitment they show is crazy. It is very easy for me because they are going to turn up with their eyes and their minds open, just looking to learn.”

The former Portaferry hurler has overseen Dromara win three and lose four games in Division Two this year. Their most recent result was a 9-15 to 1-3 win over St Kevin’s.

“I wouldn’t read too much into the St Kevin’s win. We are coming out of the silly season of exams and we are going into silly season with holidays,” he said. “One player can really make or break a team, particularly with Division Two and teams at this level. St Kevin’s are coming. The score didn’t reflect the game.”

They may have lost more than they have won this season, but David says that the most recent win shows that the team are in a great position.

“Our efficiency in front of the goal was a wee bit better. We are trying to maybe play a wee bit more to our strengths. With trying to implement something new, you sort of have to accept that you are going to get it wrong till you get it right. We took a lot of learnings from every single game we have played this year but for the first time in the league so far, more went right than wrong for us really.”

In the full story David goes on to explain the incredible attitude the team have shown in recent years.
