Dundrum win by two runs
DUNDRUM Cricket Club’s men’s first XI won a Dundrum men 1st XI won a thrilling game by only two runs against a strong Downpatrick side in the first derby of the season on Sunday past.
Dundrum entered the game after a comfortable victory versus Victoria on Friday past While Downpatrick came into the game after victory over Dunmurry.
Downpatrick won the toss and elected to bat first on a sunny day at The Meadow. Dundrum opened the batting with Rodney Hassard and Terry Hutley. Downpatrick opened the bowling with Humza Khan and M Khatri.
Dundrum got off to a steady start as Downpatrick made scoring difficult with good bowling and fielding.
Hutley was then dismissed for 3 off the bowling of M Khatri to leave Dundrum 16 for 1 from four overs.
Stuart Campbell came to join Hassard looking to rebuild. However, Downpatrick continued to make scoring difficult with Samuel Irwin and Vimal Dwivedi bowling good in the middle overs.
Hassard and Campbell added 73 for the second wicket to take Dundrum to 89 for 1 from 15 overs.
Hassard was eventually dismissed for a well made 49 off the bowling off Sidharth Kumar. Stian Swanepoel joined Campbell looking to accelerate in the closing overs.
Downpatrick began to release the pressure with Dundrum accelerating the scoring. Campbell attacked the bowling, putting pressure back on Downpatrick.
