Drumaness Superkings 2nd XI
100 all out (21.2 overs)
Dundrum win by 82 runs
Local bragging rights were firmly secured by Dundrum on Sunday as they produced a commanding 82-run victory over rivals Drumaness Superkings in a spirited contest at The Meadow.
Having won the toss, Dundrum elected to bat first on a green-tinged surface. Openers Ian Wright and Davy Glover laid a solid foundation with a composed 41-run partnership despite some tight bowling early on from the visitors. Drumaness found their breakthrough through Satyawan Satyawan, who turned the tide momentarily with a devastating spell that saw him remove three quick wickets, reducing Dundrum to 52 for three after 12 overs.
However, the middle order responded in style. Sixteen-year-olds Caleb Armstrong and Niamh Lowry seized back momentum with an aggressive 60-run stand. Armstrong, in particular, was outstanding, notching up his maiden senior half-century in style — bringing up the landmark with a towering six over midwicket. He eventually fell for a brilliant 58 off just 35 balls, underlining his growing promise.
In the closing overs, contributions from Matt Owen (13), Keba Butler (10), and Gordon Lowey (20 not out) ensured Dundrum pushed past the 180-mark, finishing on a strong 182 for six from their allotted 30 overs. Satyawan was the pick of the bowlers for Drumaness, finishing with figures of three for 26 from six testing overs.
In reply, Drumaness found runs hard to come by as Dundrum’s opening bowlers Caleb Armstrong and Guy de Rose applied immediate pressure. De Rose was particularly effective, removing danger man James Cunningham (14) and Abishek Sanglikar (six) in quick succession to leave the visitors reeling at 39 for two.
Despite a brief counter-attack from Neil Walsh (21 off 15), Dundrum’s bowlers kept their foot on the gas. Teenage seamer Thomas Macauley delivered a match-winning spell, tearing through the Drumaness middle order with a five-wicket haul, finishing with superb figures of five for 35. Davy Glover (two for 32) and Sean Mason (one for two) mopped up the tail as Drumaness were bundled out for 100 in just 21 overs, handing Dundrum a comprehensive 82-run win.
It was a day to remember for Dundrum, not just for the result but for the significant contributions from their emerging talent. With Armstrong and Macauley leading the charge, the future looks bright at The Meadow.
Dundrum will look to carry this momentum into their next fixture away to Ards & Donaghadee on Saturday 6 July.
