Dundrum cricketer smashes century in South Africa

Dundrum Cricket Club star Niamh Lowry’s century helped the NCU Knights U-18s to victory over Boland U-18s in South Africa.

Dundrum Cricket Club star Niamh Lowry played an integral role in the NCU Knights U-18 team’s victory over Boland U-18s on Sunday past as she smashed a memorable century.

Down High pupil Niamh gained selection for the NCU Knights squad following an incredible year with the Dundrum senior ladies’ team, culminating in her winning the NCU Women’s Senior 1 Player of the Year award at the end of last season.

The Knights team are currently on a tour of South Africa and took on Boland U-18s at Bridgehouse College, Franschhoek on Sunday.

With her side under pressure at 73 for 5, Niamh stepped up to produce a superb 165 partnership with Amelia Hughes.

Amelia was run out off the last ball of the innings for 65, while Niamh was undefeated on 100 off just 77 balls, going to her hundred with two reserve sweeps in the last over.

Niamh’s superb display helped the NCU team to victory by 15 runs.
