Dundrum beat Holywood by 5 wickets

DUNDRUM Cricket Club’s men’s first XI secured an impressive five wicket win over promotion rivals Holywood first XI on Saturday.

After a poor weather forecast threatened to intervene, there was relief when sunshine arrived at Dundrum.

Holywood won the toss and elected to bowl first. Dundrum opened the bowling with Stian Swanepoel and James Wright. Holywood opened the batting with Achira Ranaweera and Jacques Lamprecht.

Dundrum got off to a good start when Wright (2-22) bowled the dangerous Lamprecht (6) in the third over to leave Holywood 12 for 1.

Timothy Gordon joined Ranaweera at the crease and the two Holywood batters formed a dangerous partnership, adding 70 runs for the next wicket.

Dundrum struggled to build any pressure, with a combination of poor bowling and fielding allowing Holywood to take the upper hand. Ranaweera (19) eventually fell after being bowled by Scott Symington, leaving Holywood 85 for 2 from 17 overs.

At drinks, Holywood reached 102 for 2 from 20 overs, looking to push on in the second half. Dundrum captain Gavin McNerlin rallied his players, looking for a big improvement in the second half.
