Dundrum 124-5 (28.1 overs)

Dundrum win by 5 wickets

DUNDRUM Cricket Club’s men’s first XI secured two away victories over the course of the weekend to move into second position in NCU Section Two, following up their win over BSK on Saturday with a five wicket victory over local rivals Saintfield on Sunday afternoon.

Dundrum opened the bowling with Stian Swanepoel and Andrew Campbell. Saintfield opened the batting with Ross Murray and Andrew McCavera.

Saintfield got off to a decent start as they added 22 for the opening wicket before Swanepoel bowled McCavera (9).

James Wright then came into the attack to bowl Murray (14) to leave Saintfield 29 for 2 from the opening ten overs.

New batsmen Gareth Harrison and Adam Sofley looked to rebuild for Saintfield. Harrison began to counter attack for Saintfield, putting the pressure back onto the Dundrum bowlers.

The two Saintfield batsmen added 30 runs for the next wicket in only five overs to put the pressure on Dundrum. However, both fell in quick succession with Harrison (28) being bowled by Scott Symington and Sofley (10) dismissed by Stuart Campbell after a fantastic caught and bowled.

This left Saintfield 67 for 4 from 16 overs. This led to a collapse from Saintfield as Stuart Campbell began to run through the Saintfield middle order in a fantastic spell of bowling.

Campbell would finish with fantastic figures of 5 for 11 from his six over spell to reduce Saintfield to 88 for 9 from 25 overs. Saintfield’s final two batters, Calvin Yeates (14) and Joseph Devenport (7), did frustrate Dundrum in the closing overs as they added 30 runs for the final wicket. They were eventually bowled out for 120 when Gavin McNerlin dismissed Yeates.

A good first half display from Dundrum but they knew they would need to bat well in the second half against a good Saintfield bowling attack.
