
Dundrum Coastal Rowing Club have successfully defended their world championship title, winning the SkiffieWorlds for the fourth time in a row on Sunday past. The competition, which is the world championship for the St Ayles class of coastal rowing boat, takes place every three years.
This year’s SkiffieWorlds, held in Stranraer, Scotland, saw a record-breaking 78 clubs and more than 2,000 rowers participate from across four continents, with teams travelling from as far as Australia, the USA, Canada, and South Africa.
Racing began last Tuesday and concluded on Sunday afternoon, with Dundrum’s squad of 57 coxes and rowers taking gold in eight of the 24 classes, as well as two silvers and five bronze medals. Their dominant performance earned them 480 points, topping the tournament leaderboard.
The club’s success was a true team effort, with every crew contributing valuable points. In total, Dundrum competed in 24 races, supported by a passionate group of family and club members who provided unwavering encouragement from the shoreline.
