DUNDRUM Cricket Club player Niamh Lowry has won the prestigious NCU Women’s Section One Player of the Year title.

Niamh picked up the award at the NCU end of season awards night on Saturday 23 November. The award is decided by a vote of the fellow Section One clubs who all unanimously voted for Lowry.

This marks an excellent end of the cricket season for Lowry who starred for Dundrum, averaging an astonishing 229 (the next highest being 75 for anyone else in the league) across the league while also playing an important role bowling and fielding.

Lowry also made her debut for the NCU U-17 team this season, hitting an excellent 80 in their victory over the North West U-17s.

It has been a remarkable rise for Lowry who only started playing cricket three years ago but is already knocking on the door of the Ireland selectors.

Dundrum CC Women captain Jen Shilliday commented on Lowry, saying, “We are so proud of Niamh for winning the Player of the Year award. She is one of our most hardworking players.

“Every opportunity she finds to train, she takes it. Her commitment has paid off. She is not only talented but has a fantastic attitude on and off the pitch, she’s always a leader to the other players.”

In the full report the Dundrum club explain the many positives the womens club has brought.
