New Liatroim camogie manager Gabriel Crawford believes that the current team has great potential after overseeing their work for the past three months. He admits that it is early days, but after three wins from five games, there are reasons to be positive.
“They are a real good bunch of girls who are working hard. Everything is going alright so far. I think it’s a real good squad, there is a depth there but it is also a very young squad,” he said.
Liatroim are in joint second place in the table alongside Ballygalget and Ballycran, and behind leaders Portaferry and Clonduff. They have enjoyed wins over Ballycran, Atticall, and Kilcoo (last Wednesday, 6-30 to 1-0). They suffered defeats to Portaferry and Ballyholland.
But the Fontenoys have not been at full strength. They have four injured players working their way back to fitness, and there is also a group of players who have been with the county.
“We haven’t had everybody available all the time. I think there are five at the senior camogie county, there’s one at the senior football county,” Gabriel said. “Four at the minor county. That’s brilliant because they are getting quality games.”
