WHEN the referee’s whistle sounded for half-time, Dunnaman were firmly on course to complete a league and cup double.
The league title had already been wrapped up six days earlier and on Friday evening in Tandragee they led John Magee Cup Final opponents Damolly by a single goal.
The lead was well deserved after a first half of football the men from Mourne had dominated.
The half-time scoreline didn’t do justice to Dunnaman’s superiority, with at least three really good chances created to add to their one-goal advantage.
But they weren’t taken and so often in football a team ends up ruing chances that weren’t converted when they were on top.
Dunnaman looked comfortable throughout the first half but the champions were facing the team just a place below them in the Mid-Ulster League Division Three table.
Dunnaman had defeated Damolly twice in the league, including in the game the previous Saturday which saw them crowned league champions, but they knew the Newry side would be no pushovers.
So it was to prove.
