ALMOST 30 e-scooters, bikes and scramblers were seized by police at the weekend.
The operation, officers said, was aimed at “targeting illegal scooters and other vehicles being driven dangerously and illegally”.
In total, 25 e-scooters, three e-scramblers and a petrol scrambler were seized across the Newry, Mourne and Down district, over the course of Saturday and Sunday.
Describing the operation as “proactive”, police warned that they “intend to keep targeting their use,” and predicted further seizures in a bid to keep public spaces safe.
They also took the opportunity to urge people not to buy vehicles of this kind as presents.
Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector Paul Moore said: “While these items were seized as part of a proactive operation I would like to remind anyone in possession of such vehicles that we intend to keep targeting their use and if we detect them being driven on roads, footpaths or any other public spaces we will seize them.”
