Bryansford ABC created club history when they celebrated having their first ever national champion last weekend. Ellie Ward claimed the Girl Two, 33kg title after two hard-fought matches.
In the semi-final, she faced a boxer from St Brigid’s Edenderry. Ellie was forced to box off the back foot, landing well-timed and clean shots. She picked up the win by unanimous decision.
This moved her into the final where she fought a boxer from Ballyhaunis ABC. Ellie saved her best performance to date for the big stage. She controlled the fight, throwing straight punches and keeping her opponent at bay. Her hand was raised and she celebrated being crowned an Irish champion.
Ellie has a chance of being a two-time Irish champion at the end of the month when she will enter the Cadets competition. This will round off a great season where she’s already won the Halloween Box Cup, Armagh/Down, Mid Ulster, Ulster and Nine Counties titles.
