SATURDAY 28 September was the date set for this year’s Bangor 10k event on what was a bright and dry Autumnal morning.
This is a local 10k race that really has gone from strength to strength in recent years, with attendances having doubled in the past six years, and over 1300 runners took part in this year’s event.
This year, the race was also part of the NI and Ulster Championships, with various category prizes up for grabs.
Newcastle AC had seven runners represented in this race across six different categories and all runners benefiting from near ideal running conditions, with Gillian McNiff, Patrick McNiff, Brendan McQuaid, Ciaran Brennan, Oran Dillion, Danny O’Boyle and Ernie Hall donning the red and amber bibs.
Great running by all competitors and well done to Ernie for attaining first place in the V70 Category, crossing the finish line in a time of 44 minutes and nine seconds.
Newcastle AC’s first four finishers on the day; Patrick, Brendan, Ciaran and Oran, narrowly missed a spot on the men’s team podium by five minutes, finishing in fourth place overall to Annadale Striders and NDAC’s A and B teams.
