THE past few weeks a number of athletes from Newcastle AC have been competing in both Ulster Club and Ulster Schools Combined Event Championships, testing themselves physically and mentally to sustain flawless performances across five events in one day.

What has been more popularly known as pentathlon, Eve McNamara and James Carson competed for the club at the Ulster Club Combined Events Championships at U-15 level, held at the end of August.

Each athlete competed in the hurdles, high jump, shot putt, long jump and 800m.

Eve got off to a strong start and found herself within contention of a podium spot from early on. She has been relentless in her training throughout the summer and having challenged herself in Dublin at the National Championship, and she was mentally prepared for the demands of a pentathlon.

On the day, it all came together with a strong long jump, 4.67m and a hurdles time of 12.71, meaning she finished third in the championship with a combined events personal best score of 2,414.

In the full report read how James Carson performed at the same event.
