    Family’s fundraiser to thank hospital

THE Casement family, from Drumaness, is striving to raise vital funds for the Regional Intensive Care Unit and the Regional Burns Unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

On the 3rd of July this year a family member was involved in a gas explosion in Ballyclare.

A fireball engulfed a roadworks site, where the young man suffered extensive burns.

He was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH), where he spent three weeks in ICU receiving round-the-clock critical care and excellent support was given to all family members.

He then spent a further two weeks in the Burns Unit at the RVH where his injuries were further managed.

The Burns Unit utilises the expertise of many different specialists to make sure the patient and family’s physical and psychological needs are met.

The RICU (Regional Intensive Care Unit) admits over 2,000 critically ill patients each year.

There are over 300 staff who provide essential care for critically ill patients.

The RICU charity – REVIVE – plays a pivotal role in providing additional equipment and services for patients, additional comfort and support for their families and relatives and additional training for staff.

The charity has also co-funded important research in the field of intensive care medicine.

You can show your support for the Regional Burns Unit and Regional Intensive Care Unit by purchasing a raffle ticket for £10 for your chance to win a Lim x Blue Heifer (or £1,500) donated by the Casement family.

All proceeds will go to these two charities, which the Casement family is indebted to.

The raffle will take place on the 6th of November at Saintfield Livestock Mart.

Tickets are available to purchase at Saintfield Mart and local shops or you can contact Elizabeth Rodgers on 07919574811.
