AN inspirational five-year-old from Slievehanny completed his charity cycle to raise money for The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity on St Patrick’s Day.
Conn Kelly was diagnosed with a brain tumour in July 2024 and as a result of the damage done by the tumour he has become visually impaired.
He currently receives chemotherapy treatment each week in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. In a move remarkable for one so young, Conn has said he ‘would like to raise money for kids that are sick’.
Conn’s mum Orla set up a Just Giving page for him with the target of raising £100, with the challenge being that he would cycle five kilometres around Castlewellan Lake. At the time of writing, the total raised was more than £18,000.
On Monday he completed the charity cycle.
Conn’s mum Orla posted this message on their Just Giving page this week: “Today Conn completed his big challenge. It was a very lastminute decision, so we didn’t have a chance to let people know (I hope you understand). But we thought it was best to do it when Conn felt up to it and the weather was on our side. “To say we are so proud of him is an understatement.”
