AN INSPIRATIONAL five-year-old from Slievehanny is getting into gear for a five-mile charity cycle to raise money for The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity.
Conn Kelly was diagnosed with a brain tumour in July 2024 and as a result of the damage done by the tumour he has become visually impaired.
He currently receives chemotherapy treatment each week in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
In a move remarkable for one so young, Conn has said he ‘would like to raise money for kids that are sick’.
Conn has always loved his bike and has been building his confidence at cycling again over the past few months.
Therefore, to raise the money he wants to complete a sponsored cycle.
He will don his helmet, and pedal off to take in two laps of Castlewellan Lake, a distance of approximately five miles, all with the intention of raising as much money for the charity that is so important to him and his family.
Conn’s mum Orla set up a Just Giving page for him with the target of raising £100. But in no time they have raised over £11,000 for the charity, smashing its original target many times over.
They have chosen to raise funds for The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity because they have seen first-hand the work the charity does.
The charity supports the work of the medical team and staff at the Children’s Cancer Unit at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.
The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity depends on donations and fundraising by the general public.
